Control the Temp!

Brrrr. It’s wicked cold out there. While it’s awfully tempting to crank up the heat, here are a couple of tips to save energy, which is better for the environment and saves you cash!

  • When you are home and awake, set your thermostat as low as is comfortable. This may be up for debate in some households…
  • When you are asleep or out of the house, turn your thermostat back 10° to 15° for eight hours and save around 10% a year on your heating and cooling bills. A programable thermostat can make managing the heat in your house easy. Also see ENERGY STAR’s June 5, 2008, podcast for video instructions on operating your programmable thermostat.
