Entry #25 Diaper Changing Station – Katy McCormack Hollander, Westbrook ME

We are expecting our first baby in July, and I wanted to start preparing his room and needed a changing station.  I found this inexpensive desk on Craigslist.  It’s solid and in great condition, but I wanted to give it some color.  I chose not to paint it with a primer, because I knew I was going to sand it later to give it a weathered-look.  I cheated a little with the color, because I combined several samples of Valspar that I had leftovers from past projects and it came to to be this rockstar turquoise!  With two coats with a foam brush, I painted it intentionally uneven.  After the desk dried, I sanded down the corners and a fair amount on the top.  Then I applied two coats of the Minwax finishing wax.  For a final touch, I replaced the drawer pull with a locally made beach stone pull.  The desk came out great!  I took a bit of a gamble mixing several blues together, but I could just EAT the turquoise they made!  Yummy!
